Curriculum PE

PE is highly valued at Haslingfield Primary School and we have an excellent record for participation and performance in competition in the South Cambridgeshire School's Partnership. In recognition of the quality and depth of provision, the School has been awarded the gold standard for the School Games Mark every year since 2015.  In 2019, the school achieved the platinum award, which is the highest accolade for a school to attain in this area.

All children at Haslingfield Primary School have two hours of core PE a week and this consists of a broad range of activities that conform to the National Curriculum guidelines and are age appropriate. In addition to the core entitlement, the school offers a variety of additional opportunities for children to experience PE and sport through extra-curricular clubs and an extensive intra and inter competition programme. The school's activity policy also ensures that outdoor play activities support a healthy lifestyle and we encourage the upper KS2 children to develop their leadership skills through play leading at lunchtimes.  The school is keen to encourage physical activity in the classroom.  As a school, we endeavor to assist children in meeting the government target of each child achieving 60 minutes of daily physical activity.  We have invested in a variety of programmes to support this agenda including 5 a day tv and Maths of the Day, along with Sensory Circuits and Change for Life Clubs to ensure inclusivity for those who would benefit from extra support in their physical development.

The School has its own heated swimming pool used during the summer, a large playing field, playground and indoor hall space and all activities are well resourced with colourful, sensory equipment including a climbing wall and outdoor activity trail.  The school is currently in the process of investing further in outdoor equipment to encourage greater physical activity.

As part of the PE Premium funding the school subscribes to the South Cambs Schools Sports Partnership and has the support of a Primary PE Specialist for half a day a week. The school has invested in a variety of enrichment activities including Bikeability for all year 6 children, Balance ability for EYFS and Year 1, Top up Swimming, Play Leaders training and a whole School intra-school competitive events.
