Haslingfield Coding Club

"Haslingfield Endowed Primary School's coding club started in April 2014, with the aim of introducing students age 5-7 to computer programming through the Scratch programming environment (http://scratch.mit.edu/). The club is aimed at children significantly younger than most coding clubs cater for, and the content and delivery style are tailored for this younger audience. Through a well considered choice of topics, children as young as 5 can achieve significant milestones such as creating simple games. Additionally there is some focus on teaching computer hardware by utilizing games and activities advocated by CS Unplugged (http://csunplugged.org/). Response to the first session of this club has been fantastic. It was initially oversubscribed, and feedback from both students and parents has been excellent. Additionally an evening session for parents was held to demonstrate how they can best support their young coders, particularly targeted at those who have no coding experience themselves.
