Sports Premium Funding

PE and Sports Premium

The government has committed to spend over £450 million on improving physical education and sport in primary schools. This extra funding is allocated directly to individual primary schools and it is the responsibility of the Headteacher and the PE Subject leader to allocate the money to fund PE and sport provision in the school in the best possible way.

Schools can choose how they use the funding, for example to:

  • hire specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers during PE lessons

  • provide places for children in after-school sports clubs and holiday clubs

  • pay for professional development opportunities for teachers in PE and sport

  • run sport competitions in school and with other schools

  • buy resources to enhance the quality of PE teaching

How much will we receive?

Funding is allocated on the basis of £8000 per school, plus £5 for every child aged 5 or over on the school roll in January 2017. For our school, the funding for 2016-17 is projected to be £8680.
